It's National Small Business Week! In celebration, I would like to highlight five small businesses in Provo that bring a special dynamic to the city. Nationally and locally, small business play an important role to the economy employing nearly 59 million workers and more than one-third of the country's labor force. Plus, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business.
The Scooter Lounge
Owners Kaerlig and David Hurtado started The Scooter Lounge in 2002 and moved to their current location 2016. Located at 302 S 500 W in Provo, The Scooter Lounge is Provo’s only Vespa, Piaggio, Genuine, SYM & Lance dealership. Actual Source
Celebrating 5 years of independent publishing, Actual Source is a publisher, brand, and retail store that collaborates with contemporary artists and designers, to release limited edition books, fonts, clothing, and objects. Since 2016, Actual Source has been invited to speak at various academic institutions and conferences; mostly recently at Typo Berlin in 2018. Their work was exhibited at the 28th International Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno, CZ and currently their work is being shown at the Tokyo Type Directors Club Exhibition at Ginza Graphic Gallery in Tokyo. Actual Source is located at 50 E 500 N, # 103.
Rocketship
You may have noticed blue bike racks around the city that were designed by Rocketship. Rocketship is a full-service industrial design and product development firm that helps executives and entrepreneurs bring fresh product concepts to market – from idea to execution. Rocketship has worked with companies like Philips, Jansport, Cricut, Blendtec and Bullfrog Spas to bring products to market. Rocketship is located at 110 S 300 W.
Vanderhall Motorworks
Provo, meet the 3-wheeled roadster. This retro-looking vehicle is taking the auto industry by storm. The company was recently featured on Jay Leno’s Garage TV series and in January 2019, Motortrend.com wrote how Vanderall roadster was the ultimate autocycle. As the only auto manufacturer in Utah, Vanderhall builds these roadsters at their Provo facility located at 3500 Mountain Vista Pkwy.
Sawtooth Software
Sawtooth Software is a computer software company that provides advanced analytics and insights to businesses helping them predict what their customers will buy. This privately owned company is best known for their integrated predictive analytics solution called Conjoint Analysis. Conjoint Analysis provides companies insights on what features a new or existing product should have. Sawtooth Software is located at 3210 N Canyon Rd Ste 202.
I love that we celebrate small businesses, but would love even more if Provo would recognize our home-based businesses as well. We have an amazing group of home based business owners, I have two myself and am working on a third, but getting exposure and support is hard to come by in Provo. I, myself, would love to setup a glamour photo session with Mayor Kaufusi (and husband!) show casing not only my work, but our amazing local studios. Just a thought. :)
