Have you seen the latest façade makeover that the City has been involved with? Checkout the Davis Millinery building at 198 West Center Street.
Before:
After:
Henry W. Davis built the building in 1890 to house his business, The H.W. Davis Millinery Co. where they made women’s hats. The original building also housed a dressmaking shop in the back and the Davises lived in the upper floor of the building with their 11 children.
The building has housed many businesses over the years including the Matytag Washing Machine Company, J. Eugene Harrison Optometrist, Gary Realty, Kelsch Shoe Repair, Tick Tock Shop, The Bird Palace, Hookah Collection, Fruta Crush and now Raspados El Centro Mexican Snacks.
Our Community and Neighborhood Services Department has federal funds to help with façade makeovers. If you would like more information about the program please see our website provo.org/facadegrant.
I am glad you see this atrocity as " progress". My heart literally broke seeing the ocean mural painted over. It was such a prominent image to so many of us who spent alot of time in the " old downtown ". Gentrification. Shame on you.
