Provo City Employees Give Back

Updated: Mar 6

For over 30 years, Provo City Employees have participated in many ways to give back to our community through charitable giving campaigns and hours of service. Last year, more than any other year, the generosity and cumulative collections from city employees has proven monumental.

Through cash donations and payroll deductions, during our annual Charitable Giving Campaign, the total money raised was $24,027.50, up 48% from the prior years ($12,431.58). A portion of those funds were designated to go to Community Action Services and Food Bank to help supply kids’ food packs, general grocery items, and hygiene products, an equivalent of 33,104 lbs. (over 16 tons) of food!

During the fall, Provo City participates in the annual Day of Caring event put on by United Way. This year, Provo City employees offered 105 service hours at the Alpine House in Provo. Employees deep cleaned, painted inside and out, trimmed trees and bushes, moved furniture and helped with electrical needs in the home.

In addition to these city wide sponsored events, individual city departments did their own collections and/or service hours which consisted of the following:

  • Customer Service helped serve dinner at the Food and Care Coalition and pack sack lunches (80 service hours)

  • Provo Power raised $1800.00 for the East Bay Post High Special Needs School and held a Christmas fair for 24 students and the staff of the school including planting Christmas trees and decorating them, building a toy car, going on bucket truck rides and a visit from Santa who gave each student a gift.

  • Provo Police participated in the Shop with a Cop program organized by Utah County where 125 kids were able to go see the Christmas lights in Spanish Fork, have breakfast and then go shopping with funds raised from many different entities.

  • Provo Fire raised $1000.00 for the United Way Sub for Santa program, helping provide Christmas for two families.

  • There are also several employees that volunteer on their own and offer many hours of service for Habitat for Humanity, Community Action, United Way, and more.

Our employees are amazing! They help and watch out for each other and generously give their time and money to support local organizations. I am so proud and honored to be the Mayor of Provo. Our employees are some of the very best!
